For my personal evaluation, I have reflected on my time in EDUC 252 in order to determine what grade or mark I would give myself based on my performance in the past 6 weeks. The easiest way for myself to reflect is to write a list which will be listed below:
- I have attended every lecture
- I have done the readings and wrote notes on the readings (found on my “class notes” page)
- I engaged in my small group discussions every class and took on a leadership position (in some weeks) to be the one to write on the board.
- I have reached out after class hours when I needed clarification
- I was always prepared for class, such as when we were required to have three copies of a draft in week 5 for peer review
- I have engaged with the course materials and took what I found interesting to create my portfolio and research paper which I have put a lot of time and effort into; and I am very satisfied with the result of both (research paper & portfolio).
Ultimately, this class has truly challenged me and the way I view education. This was the first education class I’ve ever taken, and I am glad I did take it.
My mindset has shifted. A small and almost comical memory that relates to my mindset shift in Educ 252 is myself and others being extremely confused at the beginning of the semester about what a portfolio should look like. I always assumed it was simply a compilation of my work simply “thrown in a folder”. However, why is this the definition many of us believe a portfolio is? I pondered this question and simply came to the conclusion that my perception of a portfolio was due to the fact that, that’s what portfolios always were in my previous experiences. However, I now know that is not what portfolios have to be. I have now created my portfolio the way I deemed fit to represent the research (not following any type of model or standard) I have conducted for my research paper and I could not be more satisfied with it. I believe I will take this lesson with me in future classes and will continue to be able to thrive creatively without the imaginary limitations that I have always placed on myself in the past.
I would grade myself 24/25.
